Ecuador Unrest - January 10, 2024
The Government of Ecuador has declared a state of emergency due to civil unrest following the recent violence in the country's prison systems. There have been a number of clashes between armed gangs and security forces in some of the major cities.
All G Adventures groups on the ground are safe and accounted for and tours are continuing with adjustments being made to itineraries as necessary.
We are monitoring the situation closely. The safety of our clients is our number one priority and we will continue to provide updates as this situation develops.
Prague Shooting
December 21, 2023
A mass shooting in downtown Prague has seen 15 people killed and left around 30 people injured. According to Czech police and the city's rescue service, the individual responsible for the shooting is also deceased. The episode happened at a University Faculty in Jan Palach Square
G Adventures has one group on the ground in Prague. we can report that the group is safe and did not witness the shooting. We will be avoiding the area of the incident.

Iceland Volcano

Following the Volcanic Eruption on the Reykjanes Peninsula in Iceland, G Adventures can confirm all travellers are safe and accounted for. All tours to the Iceland are currently running as scheduled. There are no disruptions to tour itineraries and the airport at Reykjavik remains open. Guests may be planning to visit the Blue Lagoon should note that the facility is closed until further notice.

Queensland Flooding

Following flooding that occurred on in areas of Northern Queensland, G Adventures can confirm that all travellers and staff are safe and accounted for.
As a result of the flooding, roads leading to Cape Tribulation and Port Douglas, in the far north of Queensland have been damaged. Some disruption to itineraries may occur.

Israel Attacks

Following the news of the attacks that have taken place in southern Israel today, we can report that G Adventures currently have no tours on the ground in Israel.
Given the rapidly escalating situation, we have made the decision to cancel all tours to Israel, scheduled to depart up to and including October 15, 2023. Our teams are reaching out to affected clients to advise of the situation and to offer options.
Clients who are in Israel ahead of their trip, are being advised to remain in place, adhere to any instructions from local authorities, register their presence with their Embassy or Consulate, and begin making arrangements to leave the country,.

Ecuador Strikes
Indigenous groups in Ecuador have taken to the streets in protest against the government’s economic policies.
Demonstrators have blocked roads in Chimborazo, Cotopaxi, Pastaza, Napo and Tungurahua provinces
The Government has declared a state of emergency and is currently negotiating with the protest leaders, but the situation is expected to continue for a few days.
All G Adventures groups on the ground are safe and accounted for and we are working to provide alternative services where itineraries have been affected.
The safety of our clients is our number one priority and we will continue to provide updates as this situation develops.
Resumption of Peru Tours
Having reviewed the latest updates and information from our teams on the ground,, G Adventures has made the decision to resume operations of our trips to Peru effective March 1, 2023.
Some trips to Peru may require some itinerary adjustments to avoid areas where tourist infrastructure was affected by political protests, but clients on affected tours will be notified of any changes accordingly.

Morocco Earthquake - 2023-09-08
Update - September 10, 2023 - 9 a.m EDT
On Friday 08 September, 2023 at around 11.11pm local time, Morocco experienced a 6.8 magnitude earthquake. Communications are still challenging in some areas, but we have received word from our teams and guides on the ground that all our travellers and staff are accounted for and safe.
G Adventures has cancelled tours scheduled to visit the areas most impacted, departing up to and including 16 September 2023. These are the DCTW230908 and DCTW230915 (Mount Toubkal Weekend Trek, departing 08 and 15 September), the DCCT230908 and DCCT230915 (Climb Mount Toubkal, departing 08 and 15 September) and the DCMQ230914 (Four Days in Marrakech, departing 14 September).
All other departures in Morocco are scheduled to run as planned, with minor modifications to trip itineraries in order to avoid any affected areas. G Adventures is currently running tours, except those travelling to the areas most impacted, which are those visiting Mount Toubkal.
We are rerouting tours heading to Imlil and Ait Ben Haddou to avoid these destinations. We are also offering alternative experiences in Marrakech to avoid the Medina, which has sadly been impacted by the earthquake.
The immediate need is to keep these areas clear and let the emergency services fulfill their role. We will assess as and when it is appropriate to resume trips.
Our teams have been assessing the situation and sentiment throughout the country of Morocco. Bringing tourism income back to the affected areas will be vital to support the local communities affected, but only when it is the appropriate time, and we do not yet know when that will be.
Other major cities cities we visit, including Casablanca, Fez, Agadir and the Modern part of the city of Marrakech, are considered to be safe.

Following the 6.8 magnitude earthquake in Morocco, that was centred in the High Atlas mountains region close to Marrakech, we can advise that all G Adventures and National Geographic Journeys with G Adventures guests and staff are safe an accounted for. Our local operations teams and CEOs are in contact with our groups and continue to offer support and assistance to our clients on the ground.
Due to the impact of the earthquake in the High Atlas Region of Morocco, we have made the decision to cancel the following tips with departures up to and including September 16, 2023:

A 6.8 magnitude Earthquake has occurred in Morocco entered near Marrakech.
Our local operations staff and CEOs on the ground are contacting groups and providing assistance as necessary.

Landslide triggered by the heaviest rainfall in Quito
Mud and rocks were carried down the slopes of the nearby Pichincha volcano. A recreation ground and eight houses were engulfed, and cars swept away at La Gasca neighborhood.
At least 47 people were injured 20 are missing and 22 people died during the landslide.

Sri Lanka Unrest

Most governments have now dropped their advisories against travel to Sri Lanka as a result of the recent political unrest. Our sources on the ground consider that the situation in Sri Lanka is now stable. Therefore, G Adventures has made the decision to resume our operations in Sri Lanka.

Political unrest has broken out in Sri Lanka, with activists demanding that President Gotabaya Rajapaksa and his current Government resign from their respective position. Protesters marched towards the President’s official residence, broke through the barricades, stormed the residence and have taken over the Presidential Hose as well as the Secretariat.
As a result of the political unrest, G Adventures has made the difficult decision to cancel the following departures:

Yellowstone National Park Closure
UPDATE:
The National Park Service has announced the planned reopening of the Lower Loop of Yellowstone National Park at 8 a.m. Wednesday, June 22, 2022. Areas accessible include Madison, Old Faithful, Grant Village, Lake Village, Canyon Village and Norris. To balance the demand for visitor access, the National Park Service has announced they will institute an interim visitor access plan.
Monday 13 June 2022
All entrances to Yellowstone National Park have been CLOSED temporarily due to heavy flooding, rockslides and extremely hazardous conditions.
Northern portion of Yellowstone National Park are likely to remain closed for a substantial length of time due to severely impacted infrastructure.
An aerial assessment conducted Monday, June 13, by Yellowstone National Park show major damage to multiple sections of road between the North Entrance (Gardiner, Montana), Mammoth Hot Springs, Lamar Valley and Cooke City, Montana, near the Northeast Entrance.
The National Park Service will make every effort to repair these roads as soon as possible; however, it is possible that road sections in northern Yellowstone will not reopen this season due to the time required for repairs.
All entrances to Yellowstone National Park remain temporarily CLOSED while the park waits for flood waters to recede and can conduct evaluations on roads, bridges and wastewater treatment facilities to ensure visitor and employee safety.
There will be no inbound visitor traffic at any of the five entrances into the park, including visitors with lodging and camping reservations, until conditions improve and park infrastructure is evaluated.
The park’s southern loop appears to be less impacted than the northern roads and teams will assess damage to determine when opening of the southern loop is feasible. This closure will extend minimally through next week.
Due to the northern loop being unavailable for visitors, the park is analyzing how many visitors can safely visit the southern loop once it’s safe to reopen. This will likely mean implementation of some type of temporary reservation system to prevent gridlock and reduce impacts on park infrastructure.
At this time, no known injuries nor deaths to have occurred in the park as a result of the unprecedented flooding and all G Adventures groups are safe and accounted for
The National Park Service, surrounding counties and states of Montana and Wyoming are working with the park’s gateway communities to evaluate flooding impacts and provide immediate support to residents and visitors.
Sri Lanka Protests
The government of Sri Lanka declared a state of emergency as of 24:00 hours of 6th May due to protests that are taking place across the country. A curfew has been imposed as protests turned violent in some cities,The military and police have been called in to maintain order. Travel between destinations have been halted but the movement of Tourism has been permitted and is not being affected so far. No G Adventures tours have been impacted.
G Adventures are not running trips in Sri Lanka for the month of May or June. We will continue to assess the situation and we will provide updates update as the situation develops.

Statement regarding Russia tours
We have made the decision to cancel all tours travelling in and through Russia until the end of December 2023. Formal notifications to agents and travellers are being sent out. We have made no additional changes to our other tour programmes in Europe. The health and safety of our travellers is of the utmost importance to us and we continue to monitor the situation closely as it unfolds.
In line with global sanctions, we will also no longer accept Russian nationals residing inside Russia on our trips, nor will we take bookings from Russian agencies. We recognize that these sanctions will impact everyday people who may not agree with Russia’s politics but they are unfortunately essential to apply pressure on the country to invoke change.
At G Adventures we believe travel and understanding different cultures could be the fastest path to peace, and we hope for a swift and diplomatic resolution for all those impacted.
